Climbing roses can actually change the look of your house. You can put them around a column or trellis. They can also climb onto the side of your house. However climbing roses are not liked by a majority of gardeners. The reason behind this is that climbing roses take years to mature and they are also damaged during the winter months. But there are still a number of varieties of climbing rose that can survive in the tough weather conditions. Spring is the best time for planting climbing roses, early spring to be precise. The roses will adapt themselves in six to seven months time that is before the start of winters. Climbing roses are divided into three basic categories and you should get familiar with them before choosing one for your own house. These are the trailing roses, true climbers and ramblers.
Ramblers are probably the most disturbing climbing roses. These lively roses can reach a height of 20 feet and that too in just a single season. Ramblers usually produce small roses though the newer varieties may produce bigger ones. However the bad thing with ramblers is that they are prone to mildew infection. You should go for trailing roses in case you want a tougher and safer variety of climbing rose. These roses can grow really well when planted alongside the wall. However you must stake them or else they will occupy the whole of the ground instead of growing straight. These roses attain a diameter of 2 to 3 inches. Rosa Wichurana and cultivars are the popular trailing roses. True climbers produce big flowers. These huge flowers blossom in clusters. There are tow main varieties of true climbers. They are the climbing hybrid teas and the bush climbers. Climbing hybrid teas flower only in their specific season. They don't last for more than 2 to 3 weeks outside their flowering season. However the bush climbers flower through out the season. Climbing hybrid teas are more prone to mildew and other infections. It is quite easy to plant these roses. You first need to find an area where you will like to plant them. Now dig a big hole which should be about 1 foot (from the arch or trellis). You now require organic matter and you should thus add compost or well rotted manure into the soil. You should then take out the rose from its container. See for any tangles roots. Untangle them carefully if there are any. Now out the plant into the hole and cover it up with soil. Watering of the plant should only be done after you have planted it well. The climbing roses should be watered at least once a week. Saturate the soil. You must tie the canes to the adjoining structures once they reach the arch or trellis. There are no tendrils present in climbing roses and thus they need to be attached to something. For binding them, you can use a string or a soft piece of cloth. This is required so that the canes get enough space for their growth and development. However make sure that you do not tie them very tightly. So get the perfect roses for your house! They will make you house look even more beautiful.
