There are many varieties of flowers that are easy to grow with very little effort involved. People who want to grow plants that flower quickly and all season long, they usually choose annuals for their garden. There are some factors to consider before growing different types of annuals. These factors include soil, level of pH, deciding when to plant and where to plant, the type of fertilizer, and how much watering, weeding and pruning is needed. In this article we will discuss some of the most popular annuals and how they could be grown and taken care of.
Geraniums are one of the most beautiful pelargonium species of flowers. They are considered to be the most reliable plants to grow in any garden. They grow from spring to frost. Gardening experts advise to plant geraniums in late May or early June. Geraniums grow in almost every kind of soil. Just remember to water them regularly. There are many types of geraniums. The scent of these flowers is also extracted to make oils for aromatherapy and in candle making. The foliage has to be crushed gently to release the scent. In other cases you can also boil the petals in water for sometime to release their fragrance. Make sure that you plant flowers not too close to one another. Sunlight is necessary for both un-scented and scented geraniums. Petunias are the next popular annuals. Like geraniums there are many varieties of this plant and it also grows from spring to frost. These flowers are bright and beautiful and have a lovely fragrance. Pink and white petunias are very popular among gardeners. You will have to choose among these types of petunias – grandiflora, multiflora, milliflora and groundcover. Grandiflora is the most popular of all and it produces large flowers. Groundcover grows very quickly and cover the entire ground in one season; hence the name ‘groundcover’. You will need to take care of these flowers just like geraniums or any other flowering plant. Water them regularly and make sure there is adequate sunlight. Remove dead flowers as soon as they are discovered.
